About This Data
The temperature series is the NASA GISS (GISTEMP) global surface temperature anomaly: how much warmer or cooler each year was than the 1951-1980 average, shown per decade from 1880 and yearly since 2015. The CO2 series is the NOAA annual average measured at Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii, in parts per million. Country profiles combine Our World in Data per-capita CO2 emissions with temperature change and sea level rise.
These figures are compiled from published datasets and built into the site; they are not live and do not update automatically. Explore the temperature table, the CO2 record, 12 country profiles, the extreme events log and the carbon footprint estimator, or check the data sources.
